HTTP method

Also called: HTTP verb, GET, POST

The type of request: GET reads data, POST creates, PUT/PATCH updates, DELETE removes.

Definition

Each API request uses a method that says what it intends to do. Testers check that the right method is used (for example, never sending passwords with GET) and test what happens when requests are repeated.

In practice

Sending the same POST /orders twice creates two orders, while sending the same GET /orders twice changes nothing.
