Secure Enclave
An isolated security area inside Apple's chips that protects biometric data and keys; apps never see its contents.
Definition
Face ID and Touch ID data never leaves the Secure Enclave. Apps only get a yes/no result and can use keys that are unlocked by it.
In practice
The banking app never receives your face data; it only learns that the Secure Enclave approved the unlock.
