Take-home assignment
Also called: Take-home task, Home assignment, Test assignment
A practical hiring task you complete on your own time, such as testing an app and sending bug reports.
Definition
A take-home assignment is a practical task in a hiring process that the candidate does independently within a deadline, for example "test our website's checkout and send bug reports and a short summary within 48 hours". Reviewers look at how well the candidate follows the instructions, prioritizes by risk, writes reproducible reports and communicates what was and wasn't tested.
In practice
A candidate gets a staging link and 48 hours, spends about four hours testing, and sends a summary on top, bug reports sorted by severity, and a "Not tested, and why" section.
