3-D Secure
Also called: 3DS
An extra step where the card's bank asks the shopper to confirm an online payment.
Definition
With 3-D Secure the customer is sent to their bank, often their banking app, to approve a payment before it completes. In Europe it is the usual way to meet Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) rules. Testers check success, failure and cancellation, and what happens when the app goes to the background during the redirect.
In practice
The user approves the payment in their banking app and switches back, and the shop should show "Order confirmed", not an empty checkout.
