Defect
Also called: Fault
A flaw in the code or documentation that can make the software fail.
Definition
A defect is an imperfection in a work product, usually code, that does not meet its requirements. Defects are caused by human errors, and when the faulty code runs it may cause a failure. "Bug" and "defect" are used interchangeably in practice.
In practice
The developer wrote "if (age > 18)" instead of "if (age >= 18)", so 18-year-olds cannot sign up. That line of code is the defect.
