Error

Also called: Mistake

A human mistake, such as misunderstanding a requirement, that introduces a defect.

Definition

In testing vocabulary, an error is a mistake made by a person, for example a developer typing the wrong condition or an analyst writing an unclear requirement. Errors lead to defects in the product, which may then cause failures.

In practice

A developer misreads "minimum 8 characters" as "maximum 8 characters". That misunderstanding is the error.
