Emulator
Also called: Android Emulator
Software that imitates a real device's hardware and OS on your computer, like the Android Emulator.
Definition
An emulator mimics both the hardware and operating system of a device, so you can run a mobile app on a computer. The Android Emulator in Android Studio is the most common example. It is free and convenient but does not perfectly match real devices in performance, sensors or manufacturer customizations.
In practice
You quickly check a layout on a Pixel 4 and a Pixel Tablet using Android emulators before testing on the real phones in the office.
