Definition
Empty states happen for new users, after filters remove everything, or when a search finds nothing. A good empty state explains why it's empty and what to do next. Testers deliberately create empty states because developers often forget them.

Searching a shop for "xyzqwe" should show "No results for 'xyzqwe'" with suggestions, not a blank page or an endless spinner.
