Error summary
Also called: Validation summary
A box at the top of a form listing every problem after a failed submit, each linking to its field.
Definition
On long forms, an error summary tells users how many problems there are and where. After submit, focus moves to the summary so screen readers announce it, and each item is a link that moves focus to the field. It complements, not replaces, the message next to each field.
In practice
"There are 2 problems: Enter your date of birth. Accept the Terms to continue." Tapping the first line jumps to the Day box.
