Modal
Also called: Dialog, Popup
A window that appears on top of the page and blocks the content behind it until it is closed.
Definition
Modals, or dialogs, demand attention for a decision or a short task. While open, the background is dimmed and not interactive. Testers check every way to close it, keyboard focus, scrolling behind it, and what happens on small screens or with the back button.
In practice
"Delete this photo?" with Cancel and Delete is a modal. Pressing Esc on web or the Android back button should close it without deleting anything.
