Packet loss
The share of data that never arrives and has to be sent again.
Definition
On unstable networks some data is lost, causing retries, stalls and timeouts. Testers simulate it with network conditioners to find apps that hang.
In practice
With 10% packet loss, the video call freezes, but the chat should still deliver messages, perhaps late.
