Query parameter
Also called: URL parameter, Query string
Data in a URL after the ?, like ?q=mug&sort=price, often used to keep search and filter state.
Definition
Query parameters make a page's state shareable and bookmarkable, and let Back and refresh restore it. They must never contain secrets such as passwords or tokens, because URLs end up in history and server logs.
In practice
Sharing shop.com/search?q=lamp&sort=price_asc with a friend should show them the same sorted results.
