A request to a database, written in SQL, that returns or changes data.
Definition
A SELECT query reads data and changes nothing. INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE change data, so testers run them only on their own test database, never on shared or production data without permission.
In practice
SELECT name, email FROM users WHERE city IS NULL lists the users who have no city saved.
