Render-blocking resource
A CSS or JavaScript file the browser must download before it can show the page.
Definition
Large render-blocking files delay the first paint, so users stare at a white screen. They show up early in the DevTools waterfall.
In practice
A 1.1 MB script without defer keeps the page blank for 3 seconds on mobile.
