Also called: Responsive images
An HTML attribute that offers several sizes of one image so the browser downloads the smallest sharp one.
Definition
Together with the sizes attribute, it lets phones download small thumbnails while large screens get sharper images. Testers check the Network panel for oversized downloads.
In practice
A 400px-wide thumbnail should download a ~40 KB file, not the 4 MB original.
