Captive portal
A Wi-Fi login page that intercepts traffic until the user signs in or accepts terms.
Definition
Hotel, airport and café Wi-Fi often show a captive portal. Apps see a 'connected' network that returns odd responses, which can confuse them.
In practice
On hotel Wi-Fi before logging in, the app shows 'Unexpected data' instead of 'No internet connection'.
