Environment
Also called: Test environment
A setup of servers, data and configuration where the software runs, such as dev, staging or production.
Definition
An environment is a complete place where the software runs, including its servers, databases, configuration and third-party connections. Teams usually have several, such as development, QA/test, staging and production, so that testing does not affect real users.
In practice
You test a new payment flow in the QA environment with fake cards, so no real money moves and no real customers see unfinished features.
