Precondition
Something that must already be true before you can start a test.
Definition
A precondition is the state the system, data or device must be in before a test case begins. Writing preconditions down makes tests repeatable and stops confusion about why a test failed.
In practice
"User is logged in and has at least one item in the cart" is a precondition for testing the checkout screen.
