ARIA
Also called: WAI-ARIA, aria-label
HTML attributes that tell assistive technology what custom elements are and what state they're in.
Definition
ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) adds roles like dialog or tab, states like aria-expanded and labels like aria-label. It helps when native HTML isn't enough, but wrong ARIA is worse than none.
In practice
A custom dropdown without aria-expanded leaves screen reader users unaware whether the list is open or closed.
