Exception flow
Also called: Error flow
A route through a use case where an error or condition stops the actor from reaching the goal normally.
Definition
Exception flows describe how the system handles failures such as a declined card, an expired link or a closed restaurant. Testers check the message, that no half-finished data is left behind, and whether the user can recover. Some teams call alternative and exception flows together 'extensions'.
In practice
The reset link is older than 30 minutes, so the app shows 'This link has expired' and offers to send a new one.
