Software development life cycle
Also called: SDLC
The stages software goes through, from idea and requirements to release and maintenance.
Definition
The software development life cycle (SDLC) describes the phases of building software, typically requirements, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance. Models such as Waterfall, V-model and Agile arrange these phases differently. Testing should start early in the SDLC, not only at the end.
In practice
A team building a fitness app gathers requirements, designs the screens, codes the features, tests them, publishes to the app stores and then fixes bugs reported by users.
